Batik watercolors on rice paper are like batik fabrics. The process of painting with watercolor pigments on ginwashi rice paper uses melted wax as a resist. The wax secures the lightest painted areas of the art piece through alternate layering of paint and wax ending with the darkest colors. The rice paper has random. texture with tiny pieces of plant fiber. Once the layering and final design is created, all the wax is melted off to reveal the unique final art piece.
